Open an Account & FAQ

The ILBOE’s Online System

To start your journey, you must create an account to establish your identity and then have access to pertinent information.

An online account will enable you to file an application, apply for tests, see test scores, and more.

First Time Candidate

If you have never applied via mail or the Online System, click below to create an account. Your user id is the email address you want to use for all correspondence. On your evaluation application, we highly recommend you enter your name the same way it appears on your primary id.

Once you get started, be ready to follow through to the payment. Duplicate accounts and unpaid applications become problematic.

Returning Candidate

If you have ever applied or been approved in the past (no matter how long ago), and/or were approved but have never used our online system, please follow these instructions:

  1. Submit the Online Access Request
  2. Once you have access, select “Forgot PW.”
  3. Copy and paste the temporary password in as the “Old PW.”
  4. Change the temporary password to a permanent password.
  5. Submit the desired application and fees.

Frequently Asked Questions

Must I have a Social Security Number to apply?

The state of Illinois does not have a residency or Social Security Number requirement. However, adding an SSN eases the licensure application process at the IDFPR. Also, NASBA will charge a fee for verifying your identity with each NTS.

Who is my evaluator?

Your evaluator’s initials appear in the subject line of the email for your approval/deficiency letter. With those, you can use our contact us link to discover your evaluator.

How do I interpret my evaluation results letter?

For guidance, click here.

Is the Pre-Evaluation a required part of the evaluation process?

No. The Pre-Evaluation is optional and meant for candidates who are uncertain about their qualifications.

My international education has already been evaluated by WES. Am I required to also be evaluated by NASBA?

Yes. The ILBOE accepts only international credentials evaluated by NASBA.

I tested in another jurisdiction. Can I transfer my CPA Exam scores to Illinois?

Yes. If you took all four sections in another jurisdiction, you are a Total Transfer of Credit candidate. If you took up to three sections elsewhere, you are a Partial Transfer candidate.

How long does it take to get my evaluation results?

Our caseload is affected by the semester calendar, with the Spring semester starting in January being our busiest season. On average, we ask that candidates allow 6-8 weeks for results, which will be sent via email.

How do I know if you have received my transcripts or NASBA report?

First of all, it is important to open an account so we have your email address. When your transcript or report is downloaded into our database, an automated email is generated, notifying you of receipt.

I have a master’s degree. Why was I evaluated under option #4?

In most cases it is because the master’s degree did not come from an AACSB or ACBSP accredited program. Please contact your evaluator for clarification.

I have been approved! What’s next?
